Who is Magnus and why are you obsessed with him???
Greetings traveler! You have stumbled upon my blog, I thank you for taking the time to look through my website. I’m sure you have a few questions. The first one is probably “Who is Magnus? This lady is obsessed.” You’re right. I am obsessed with him.
Magnus is a majestic, black brindle, Cane Corso. He was born February 2nd, 2023. I adopted him on May 4th, 2023 and my life was changed forever. “It’s just a dog though right?” Wrong!
See, I thought I was more of a cat person…and don’t get me wrong cats are cool too, but after having a dog like Magnus….I can’t say that anymore. I’m fully team dog now and I’ll tell you why.
Cane Corso’s are NOT for the faint of heart. They are large, strong, stubborn, clingy AF, and way to smart for their own good. They take time, dedication, training, and owners with a back bone. If you’re not willing to spend 18hrs a day being cuddled, stepped on, drooled on, woofed at, and ran into…do not get a Cane Corso.
So that being said, I had to level up when we adopted him. I take ownership of this breed, and dogs in general, very seriously. It is a major liability if things go wrong. So I had to step up, I had to become a leader, I had to be responsible for more than just the puppy, I had to be responsible for the general public every time I took him out. So, I dove into learning about training and socialization and developing a relationship with this 30lb wrecking ball with teeth. And boy….did our relationship bloom.
(Gotcha Day! The first picture of Magnus I took, on the way home. 13 weeks old.)
Magnus is the most magical being on this earth in my eyes. He has changed me as a person, down to the core. He has shown me unconditional love like no other, and he has taught me more than any teacher.
He’s taught me to be patient, to be vigilant, to trust my instincts more, to live in the moment, to not take things too seriously (except squirrels, and the UPS man), he’s taught me that happiness is found in the little things.
Magnus began having seizures in June of this year.
First it was just one. Then a month went by, and he had another.
Another month went by and he had three in one day. Yep, he had epilepsy. My heart broke. If you’ve never seen a dog have a seizure, it is not a pretty sight. It’s quite upsetting. Now imagine a 120lb dog with a bite force of 700psi having a seizure. Upsetting AND dangerous.
We began medication, and we are still trying to figure out the best cocktail of drugs to help control his epilepsy. It is a guessing game as to what will help, and what wont. But we persist.
He is still the best boy in the world. He is still my best friend. He always will be. The only way I can possibly thank him for all he has done, and continues to do for me, is to share him with the world. Weather it’s through my art, or through stories, or letting him meet people in our community. Magnus is such a blessing. I think everyone should have a Magnus.
So yes, dear traveler, I am obsessed with Magnus. I always will be I think. I will paint other subjects of course, but do not be surprised if a few more Magnus portraits slip in. I can’t help it.
Thank you for stopping by today. Safe travels!
